Google has always supported employee innovation for 20 percent of its projects. One fifth of the time to devote to tasks of their own choosing. Microsoft has followed that and what has come out of it is Garage.
I don’t want to start a new battle as to who started this idea first, but looking at Google Labs – We know who clearly has a lead.
Good comes out when we are passionate, interested and dedicated to the tasks we love. Both these companies have cashed this to the maximum. No need to say anything on Google Labs as most of us use their tools.
But Microsoft also has a good number of these and it is going strong. More on Garage. Amit in his blog Digital Inspiration has a post which carries the story of the tool which came out from Microsoft Garage. This post talks about Controlling two computers with the same keyboard and mouse. Fantastic one…
I tried it out and it is absolutely flawless!! The story of Truong who created this tool is very motivating…
Overall the way Google and Microsoft are going, it will surely give others some sense of how to engage employees in their workplace!!!!
